To the Mountain Tomorrow and a giveaway at Beads of Clay

First,  I want to mention a terrific giveaway they are having over at the Beads of Clay Blog.  The collection they are giving away is valued at over $150!  Check it out!

I am packing up my stuff today so I can head up to Camp Mitchell on  Petit Jean Mountain tomorrow.

Camp Mitchell

Nine of us are having a little crafting retreat.  I am so excited!  I need a nice creative weekend away!

I will have a booth at the Hot Springs Arts & Crafts Fair in Hot Springs AR on Oct 7th thru the 9th so I plan to make a bunch of stuff for it at our retreat this weekend.

I am trying to figure out how I can pack my entire craft room because I don’t want to forget anything I might need :)

Happy Designing!

The End of an Era

Just a little note about a change in my life recently:

“All My Children” ended Friday.  I know it was just a silly soap opera but I have watched it for over 30 years!  Granted, there were times that I did not watch it for several months or more at a time but I was always able to catch up with the story line pretty quickly.  I feel older knowing that this part of my life is now gone. I would call my daughter if I missed a show and ask what happened that day, if I needed to watch it because something exciting happened, or not worry about watching because it was a boring show that day. She would do the same if she missed the show. (Sorry April, guess I just let the world know that you watched a soap opera on a regular basis too!).

I was very disappointed in the last show on Friday. I expected that everything would end wonderfully but they ended the show with several cliff hangers! I think they may be planning for the show to continue on the internet but I have no desire to watch TV on my computer! I think they could have still ended everything happy even if they planned to continue in another format!

I do not plan to watch the new show “The Chew” that will be replacing “my show”. At least, not for awhile.  I have been recording the “Las Vegas” TV series on TNT and plan to watch them during lunch hour.  They have Josh Duhamel – he used to be Leo on all my children and was one of my all time favorite characters “Yum”!

I think that this “change” in my life may even end up being a bit “freeing” eventually. But for now, it is just a bit sad.

Bead Soup Blog Hop Reveal – Sept 17th 2011

I am so excited to reveal what I have created for my first Bead Soup Blog Party!

My Bead Soup Blog Party partner is Bobbie Rafferty of BeadSong Jewelry

She does some exquisite work with tiny seed beads – something I can’t even think of attempting!

Here is a photo of the wonderful assortment of beads that she sent me which includes: rainforest jasper, lepidolite, really cute jade squares, freshwater pearls, fire polished glass, little amethyst rounds, Czech glass, olive jade, some leather and an antiqued copper toggle clasp.

I made a necklace, a bracelet, and two pairs of earrings. I incorporated some of everything from my bead soup.  The only elements that were not in my soup that I added were:

  • Bronze wire, brass ear wires, and brass jumprings from Vintaj Natural Brass
  • Copper head pins and jumprings from Rings & Things
  • Copper ear wires and a toggle bar: from Nunn Design

This is the first time I have ever used leather.  I have wanted to but this finally forced me to try.  I am happy with my use of leather in this design.

I had fun playing with the bronze wire on this one.

My first BSBP has been so much fun!  I realized that if you give me a pile of beads – I can make something! Plus, I made some new friends which is always cool!

I want to thank Lori Anderson for inviting me to be a part of her party!!
