Handmade Holidays Blog Hop

Welcome to the second day of the  Third Annual Handmade Holidays blog hop!

Handmade Holidays Blog Hop 2013

The best crafters, designers, and makers have come together to create and share a series of thoughtful, handmade gifts for the holidays during this blog hop. We want to inspire you to create something from the heart this holiday season as well as share how to use some great products in fun, innovative ways. Hopefully this hop will serve as a resource to you for this holiday season and for years to come.
The hop started yesterday November 1st and goes through Novemember 3rd. Each day there is a new list of blogs to hop to! Check out the ICE Queen E-Zine each day to see the new blogs to hop to!
Comment on each blog, share your favorite posts over social media, and then use the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of each post to enter to win the Grand Prize, a gift basket filled with crafty swag from the companies on the hop!

Now, for the handmade gifts I created!

Box for Charlie

Supplies:

ICE RESIN®

Rue Romantique Large Filigree Oval and Rhinestone chain

Walnut Hollow Roomy box

Walnut Hollow Punctuation

Clearsnap Surfacez, Carbbean

Clearsnap Magic Stamp® Moldable Foam

Clearsnap Molding Mat

Clearsnap Crafter’s, teal

Other supplies:
E-6000 adhesive
Industrial Chic collage papers
Industrial Chic pendant
Rhinestone chain
Msc jewelry elements and beads
Modpodge
Clear spray paint
Acrylic paint, beige

Optional: piece of copper sheeting to adhere jewelry elements.

Step by Step:

Paint the box with beige acrylic paint (don’t need to worry about the top because you will cover it with collage paper).

step1

Heat Magic Stamp moldable foam with craft gun, push down onto molding mat to create a stamp (this was really cool – you can reuse many times or you can re-heat and create another stamp!).

step2

Use ink pad with your newly created foam stamp and stamp all over he bottom 1/2 of the box. Don’t worry about being exact.

Spray with clear spray paint to seal.

step3

Tear collage papers into pieces.  Adhere to box with coats of  Mod Podge to cover just the top of the box.

step4Add a bit of Crafter’s ink to the Mod Podge and apply another coat to the top and sides of the box. It adds a bit of color to the Mod podge – pretty cool!

step5Use the Surfacez ink pad to go around the edges of the box.

step6You could probably glue your jewelry elements strait to the box but I preferred to cut a piece of copper sheeting. Actually I cut two pieces and used some brass tape to tape them together.  This way I have the ability to lift the piece up and add elements from all sides a little easier.

step7Start by gluing your largest elements on first or elements that will go on the bottom layer. Then just start filling in gaps with small elements, rhinestones, beads, paint,  etc. The Sky is the limit!

This was a perfect way to use a bezel I had created but accidentally broke when I tried to curve the metal into a bracelet. I was able to glue elements over the broken areas – so no one is the wiser! :)

step8Paint the asterisk with crafter’s ink.

step9Prepare ICE Resin and apply a coat to the asterisk. Lay on the Industrial Chic pendant. Set aside to dry.

resintopApply a coat of ICE Resin to the center top of the box. Place the focal you created into the resin. Some of the resin will seep up into the focal which will create a more permanent bond for the piece. You can drip a little resin in some areas of the focal with a tooth pick if desired.

stepboxfrntAfter resin has dried on the top of the box. Lay box on it’s side and use E-6000 to glue on the knob you created.

My second project:

Luck Faith and Love

Luck Faith and Love

Supplies:

ICE RESIN®

Walnut Hollow Number 7

Clearsnap Smooch, Purple

Clearsnap Crafter’s, teal

Other:
Various charms
Jumprings, chain, and wire.
Toggle clasp
Sawrovski crystal bicones, purple

Paint the top of the number 7  with smooch purple ink  and the sides with teal Crafter’s ink.  Allow to dry. Prepare ICE resin and apply a thin layer to number 7.  Allow to dry 6 to 12 hours.

Paint parts of the charms with smooch purple ink and Crafter’s teal ink. Allow to dry then coat with some type of glaze sealer or clear spray paint.

Use some 20 gauge wire to wrap the number 7 and create a wrapped loop.

Connect charms, toggle clasp, and bead dangles to chain with jump rings.
